The Cleveland Orchestra play inside the Ohio Reformatory chapel. The archetectual design carries the sound into every corner of the room. #Drone #IAMedia #VideoProductionColumbusOhio
Shawshank Prison, as seen in the 1994 film, The Shawshank Redemption, is a real place - though its real name might be unfamiliar. The Ohio State Reformatory, located in Mansfield, OH, wasn’t originally a prison-not like it’s big brother, the Ohio State Penitentiary. It was designed to house criminals convicted of non-major offenses and did so for over 60 years. Restored and preserved by by the non-profit Mansfield Reformatory Preservation Society, the building is now home to the Ohio State Corrections History Museum and offers Meeting Room Rentals and tours ranging from the paranormal to those wishing to visit the sets of their favorite films, including The Shawshank Redemption (now celebrating its 30th anniversary), Tango and Cash and Judas and the Black Messiah .
I’AMedia was honored to be asked to assist with drone footage to film members of the Cleveland Orchestra for an upcoming PBS program detailing the acoustics of the chapel. Playing several selections, the orchestra demonstrated how the layout of the chapel allowed for sound to travel and be heard clearly regardless of where one was - even near the ceiling!
