Do you need an actor for your next video production? An actress for your next indie film? Maybe a voice talent for your compnay training video? Where are they and how do you find them?

Casting for large productions is usually handled by a Casting Director, someone with connections at various talent agencies. They know how to see who the script needs and find them.

If you're a smaller production, you may be doing the casting yourself. Talent agencies are companies that represent local actors, including headshots and pertinent information. Directors can browse the photos to find the right look and contact the agency to set up auditions. In central Ohio there are a few leading agencies including -but definitely not limited to- Heyman Talent Agency (www.heymantalent.com), PCG Talent Agency (https://www.pcgtalent.com), and Angela Boehm Casting (https://angelaboehmcasting.com). In these cases, the agency handles all of the negotiations and details and takes a percentage of the talent's earnings.

For productions with a budget constraint, such as a student film or a competition that forbids payment, you'll want to look at local acting classes, social media acting and film groups, or highschool/college film clubs. These often contain able, available actors who may be willing to forgoe payment in exchange for the work, IMDb credit and a good meal. Just be sure you're not asking too much of them. Multiple days, long hours and even longer commute times with no payment can quickly sour relationships and ruin a good production. Since there's no agency

handling details, the Producer will be in charge of creating and negotiating any and all contracts.

An alternative choice is to ask your freinds and/or family to fill out your cast. Background extras, minor parts, or even main acting roles can be filled with roomates, grandparents, siblings or neighbors. The NBC comedy, Cheers, was famous for having the Producers' and Director's freinds and family as extras in the background. Some would even get occasional speaking roles! (Another blog on background actors will be out later..)

I'AMedia regularly uses talent agencies such as those listed above to cast our video productions and films. From Heyman Talent Agency to Penny Candy Casting (https://pennycandyproductions.weebly.com), we're proud to use Ohio talent whenever available. www.iamfilmco.com
